Electric scooters are finally being made road legal over the next few months and this is great news for electric scooter riders all over the country. Although there is still concern over whether the scooter riders will need to tax and insure their scooters which could lead to controversy as cyclists for example do not need to tax and insure their bike for it to be made road legal. That aside however it is a step in the right direction.
Of the electric scooters you will see on our streets the Xiaomi 1S formerly the M365 electric scooter is by far the most successful and most popular scooter on the market. Xiaomi were the brand that brought these scooters to the main stream and the Xiaomi electric scooter is getting better with each model.
The Xiaomi M365 boasts a top speed 30km/h as well as a range of the same distance. The 1S model has these same specs but it does have a few upgrades such as a speedometer on the dashboard which the M365 was lacking. The 1S also boasts a better mud guard for added protection against dirt from the road. This is especially helpful in Irish weather as obviously it rains a lot and this can create a mess.
Other than that it is pretty much the same scooter, as the old saying goes if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it and this is pretty much the attitude Xiaomi have taken with this scooter. The battery too is said to be slightly more efficient but we have not had the chance to fully test this out for ourselves yet. The RRP has stayed around the same for the last while and that is partially due to the Covid lockdowns and the ability of suppliers to get stock.
